Nutrition Week at NPS HRD was a huge success from September 1 to 7, when our young primary learners embarked on a week-long journey to discover that the right food choices can fuel not just a healthy body but also a healthy and active mind.

The week opened with an engaging class assembly that emphasised the importance of balanced nutrition. A special nutritionist talk helped students understand the role of essential nutrients and the importance of including a variety of foods in their daily diet.

Students explored the idea of “My Healthy Plate”, learning how proteins, grains, fruits and vegetables can come together to create a nourishing meal. The creative “Superpower Food Heroes” craft activity transformed everyday foods into superheroes, while the Nutrition Poster-Making Competition gave young voices a colourful platform to spread the message of healthy living.

Nutrition was not just discussed, it was experienced! In Life Skills classes, students turned chefs and prepared healthy salads, discovering that wholesome food can be fresh, simple and delicious. They also explored menu planning and healthy meal-box ideas, with practical suggestions shared with parents to extend healthy choices from school to home.

And the learning soon became visible in everyday school life. Throughout the week, sprouts, millets, dry fruits, fruits, protein-rich foods made their way into classrooms and lunch boxes. The children were encouraged to make conscious choices and understand why these foods deserve a place on their plates.

One important conversation was about the “sugar trap”, helping children recognise how excess sugar can hide in many everyday foods and drinks. Discussions also focused on making mindful choices by limiting fatty, fried and highly processed foods.

Nutrition Week was more than a calendar event; it was a conscious effort by NPS HRD to nurture a healthy, informed and responsible generation. When children learn early to understand their food, listen to their bodies and make thoughtful choices, healthy living becomes a natural part of growing up.
