National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in transforming lives. Libraries encourage people to read, teach young children that books are exciting, and provide an interminable source of information. ‘National Library Week’ was celebrated at NPS Hosur Road from November 14th to 18th,2022. A plethora of stimulating events were conducted across the grades throughout the week.
National Library week was inaugurated with D.E.A.R-Drop Everything and Read, where the students and teachers together partook in reading. The tiny tots of grade 1, dressed as their favourite characters from story books, fluently quoted those characters as well. The creativity in making the puppets and presenting them in the ‘Puppet show’ left everybody spellbound. Competitions like ‘Paint Your Favourite story’, ‘Making Bookmarks’, ‘Design Your Book Cover’, ‘Books and Characters Quiz’, ‘Poster Making’, extempore on ‘Newspaper as an enhancer of Knowledge’ were conducted through the week which facilitated children to broaden their ingenuity.
Inspired by the quote “The greatest success we’ll know is helping others succeed and grow”, students of grade 8 and 9 involved in ‘Peer Reading’ to students of younger classes. Encouraging children to read at home, ‘My Home Library Challenge’ witnessed students sharing glimpses of their home library. Teachers spoke to the students about their favourite books to further encourage them become ardent readers.
Students were in for a treat with Mrs. Priya Muthukumar- Founder of Storipur, conducting an interactive and captivating story telling session for them. The session filled with wit and humour, revealed the significance of stories around us, in learning and growing. To commemorate the National Library Week, bookmarks on the theme of reading were made by students of grade 9 and presented to the principal and teachers. National Library Week celebrated at school helped students appreciate the role of books in their life and stimulated them to become lifelong readers.
